Number Plate Check
Enter a UK number plate to review vehicle details, MOT and mileage. AI Buy Score and Would I Buy It? require current mileage and asking price; registration history is available in Full Vehicle History.
What a number plate can tell you
A UK number plate is the key that unlocks a vehicle’s data. Type it into AI Reg Check and the free AI Car Check pulls together the available information tied to that registration — the vehicle details (make, model, engine, fuel and spec), the MOT history, a mileage timeline, a valuation and ownership context such as the number of keepers. To receive the AI Buy Score and “Would I Buy It?”assessment, provide both current mileage and asking price. From one plate, you can start building a clearer view of the car.
What a plate check is not
It’s important to be clear. A number plate check with AI Reg Check tells you about the vehicle, not the person. It does not reveal an owner’s name, address or any personal details — that data isn’t available to the public and shouldn’t be. Nor is this a plate-sales or transfer service: we don’t sell private registrations or move a plate from one car to another. If you’re here to assess a car before buying it, you’re in the right place; if you’re trying to buy a personalised registration, that’s a different kind of service entirely.
Registration changes and why they matter
A car can change registration for ordinary reasons, such as an owner putting a private plate on and later taking it off. A plate change alone does not indicate a problem. The Full Vehicle History Check (£14.95, or £99.99 for a 10-pack) may show registration (plate) changeswhere available, alongside outstanding finance, write-off markers and category, stolen vehicle markers, mileage discrepancies, keeper information and import/export records, where available.
A worked example
A vehicle is shown with a personalised plate. A registration change can be routine and does not itself show that the car has a problem. If relevant, a Full Vehicle History Check may show available registration-history and provenance markers; verify any finding independently.
How to run a number plate check
Enter or scan the plate and run your free AI Car Check to see available vehicle details, MOT, mileage and valuation. Supply current mileage and asking price for an eligible AI Buy Assessment, with an optional asking-price analysis if you know what the seller wants for it. When you’re serious about a car, follow up with the Full Vehicle History Check to surface plate changes and provenance markers where available. As always, AI Reg Check is decision support — independent, and not affiliated with the DVLA, DVSA, HPI, the police or any official body — so pair what the plate tells you with a proper look at the car itself before you buy.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What can I learn from a number plate?
From the registration, AI Reg Check assembles available vehicle details, MOT history, mileage timeline, valuation and ownership context. The AI Buy Score and Would I Buy It? assessment require both current mileage and asking price. Provenance data such as finance and write-off markers comes from the Full Vehicle History Check.
Can I find out who owns a car from the number plate?
No. AI Reg Check does not provide personal owner details, and neither should any legitimate service. You can, however, see the number of previous keepers as part of the vehicle’s history.
Does a plate change hide a car’s history?
Registration changes can happen for ordinary reasons, such as a private plate. A change alone is not evidence of a problem. The Full Vehicle History Check may show registration history where available.
Is this a number-plate buying or transfer service?
No. AI Reg Check is not a plate-sales or registration-transfer service. We check what a plate tells you about a vehicle — we do not sell private plates or transfer ownership of a registration.
