The complete journey

How AI Reg Check works.

From a registration number to a much clearer picture of the car.

This isn’t just another standard HPI-style check. We combine official vehicle data and full history, Online Trace™ public-web research, Live Market Trace™ market research, model-level buyer checks and AI analysis — each clearly labelled.

01

Start with the registration

A number plate is the starting point, not the whole story.

Enter a UK registration and we identify the vehicle. Depending on available data, this can include its make, model, derivative, specification, fuel, engine, tax, MOT, mileage history and valuation information.

Current mileage and asking price are optional inputs. When both are supplied, an eligible AI Buy Assessment can also consider the deal and its value.

02

We check the vehicle data

Understand the car in front of you.

The initial AI Vehicle Check brings together available vehicle specification, MOT history, mileage records, tax status, valuation information and keeper or ownership context where available.

Identity & specification

Make, model, derivative, fuel and engine where available

MOT & mileage

Recorded tests, advisories and mileage history

Tax & valuation

Status and provider valuation information where available

Ownership context

Keeper information where supplied and available

Deterministic checks and AI analysis help turn these records into information a buyer can actually use, rather than just displaying raw data.

03

Full vehicle history

Check what has been officially recorded.

Full Vehicle History checks the recorded history attached to the vehicle, helping you understand its official history before you commit.

Official history tells us what has been recorded in the data sources available to the check. It is essential context. But it is not necessarily the whole story.

Recorded provenance
  • Outstanding finance
  • Stolen markers
  • Insurance write-off history
  • Write-off category
  • Mileage discrepancies
  • Registration history
  • Number of keepers
  • Other supplied provenance information

Coverage and results depend on the records supplied for the vehicle.

04

Online Trace™ — Vehicle History Intelligence

Then we search beyond the databases.

Online Trace™ uses the vehicle's identity and confirmed registration history to research publicly indexed information connected to the same car. A clean database result does not necessarily tell you everything that may have appeared on the public web.

Public-web findings are clues to investigate, not official insurer records or proof that an accident occurred. The report distinguishes their source and certainty.

A car can leave a trail outside traditional history databases.

Public-web evidence should be considered alongside official history and vehicle inspection.

No real result, source, accident or company is represented in this example.

Live Market Trace™ — Market Intelligence

Is the asking price actually good value?

Market research looks at the vehicle profile, not the registration. We look for genuinely comparable advertised cars based on the details that affect value.

ModelDerivativeYearMileageEngine / powertrainTransmissionBody styleSpecification

Market context, not a made-up average.

When sufficient comparable evidence exists, the report can show comparable cars for sale, asking prices, market value range or position, desirability and supply/demand indicators. If an asking price is supplied, it can also be compared with that market evidence. Provider valuation information is shown separately where available.

Limited evidence? We say so. We do not manufacture a market average from inadequate comparables.
06

Model Intelligence — Known Issues & Buyer Checks

Know what to ask about on the viewing.

We also research known issues and buyer checks relevant to the model you are considering. This helps you plan questions for the seller and an independent inspection.

These are model-level buyer checks. They do not mean this individual vehicle has the fault. Recall applicability and completion should be confirmed against the VIN where appropriate.

AI Buy Assessment

We pull everything together.

When both current mileage and asking price have been supplied, the AI Buy Assessment can bring the available history, market research and vehicle information together into one clear buying assessment.

A low asking price cannot simply cancel out meaningful vehicle-specific history. AI Reg Check is decision support to help you make a better-informed decision; it does not choose for you or replace an inspection.

Evidence transparency

Not every finding carries the same certainty.

The report labels what comes from recorded data, what comes from public-web research and what is analysis or a suggested buyer check. Where information is missing or weak, we say that too.

A missing public-web result is not proof of a clean history. Always verify important findings and inspect the vehicle before buying.

Official history

Information supplied by official or vehicle-history data providers.

Publicly indexed source

A relevant public-web finding, shown with its source and appropriate caveat.

AI market estimate

AI-supported market analysis based on the research available; not a guaranteed sale price.

Buyer check

Model-level information to investigate, not a diagnosed fault on this car.

Used when the evidence is insufficient to make a stronger statement.
