Feature deep dive / The buying decision

THE AI
BUY SCORE™

One simple score. The evidence behind it.

When you supply both the vehicle’s current mileage and asking price, AI Reg Check can bring the available evidence together into an AI Buy Assessment designed to help you understand the buying proposition.

The essential inputs

No buyer-supplied current mileage or asking price? No AI Buy Score™ or “Would I Buy It?” recommendation.

KNOW IT BEFORE YOU OWN IT.™

An example, not a verdict.

Would I Buy It?

CHECK BEFORE BUYING

Specialist inspection recommended

Why this example calls for a closer look

“Recorded mileage appears broadly consistent, but recurring MOT observations and limited comparable adverts leave questions to check before purchase.”

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE — NOT A REAL VEHICLE ASSESSMENT

The evidence stack

IT ISN’T JUST ANOTHER VEHICLE-HISTORY SCORE.

Where available and applicable, the assessment considers different kinds of evidence together — without presenting them as the same kind of fact.

01 / 04

FACT / OFFICIAL-PROVIDER DATA

What is recorded.

Supported official/provider Full History records, MOT and mileage history, registration and ownership/history information where available.

Finance, stolen and write-off markers are only described as recorded where supported.

02 / 04

PUBLICLY INDEXED EVIDENCE

What can be found.

Online Trace™ looks for vehicle-specific clues under the current and confirmed previous registrations: historic adverts, auction references and other indexed pages.

Public-web references are not official insurer records or proof of an event.

03 / 04

AI ANALYSIS / MARKET INTELLIGENCE

What the context suggests.

Current mileage, asking price, valuations, Live Market Trace™ comparable adverts and model-level buyer checks help put a deal in perspective.

Comparable asking prices are not completed sale prices; model checks are not vehicle-specific diagnoses.

04 / 04

UNKNOWN / LIMITED EVIDENCE

What we cannot know.

Coverage varies by vehicle. Thin market samples, missing records or inconclusive public references are identified as limits, not filled in with assumptions.

An absence of findings cannot prove an absence of problems.

Reading the signals

WHAT CAN AFFECT THE ASSESSMENT?

The strength and quality of the evidence matter. A single public-web reference is a clue to review, not an automatic adverse verdict.

01

POSITIVE SIGNALS

  • Consistent recorded mileage
  • Clean supported history
  • Sensible MOT pattern
  • Competitive asking price
  • Strong valuation position
  • Favourable market context
02

THINGS TO INVESTIGATE

  • Recurring MOT observations
  • Publicly indexed history references
  • Previous-registration findings
  • Unusual mileage evidence
  • Limited comparable adverts
  • Model-level buyer checks
03

SERIOUS CONCERNS

  • Supported outstanding finance
  • Supported stolen marker
  • Recorded write-off / history risk
  • Significant mileage discrepancy
  • Other strong adverse evidence

A low asking price does not prove hidden damage. MOT records describe recorded test findings, not the vehicle’s current physical condition.

Understanding the score

THE NUMBER IS A STARTING POINT.

These are the current baseline score bands, translated into the labels shown to customers.

Strong adverse evidence can override the numeric band. The recommendation is not decided by the number alone.

80–100

YES

A stronger buying position on the available evidence.
70–79

YES

Potentially worth considering at the right price.
50–69

CHECK BEFORE BUYING

Investigate the key questions before deciding.
0–49

NO — WALK AWAY

The available evidence points to significant concerns.

Beyond the number / Would I Buy It?

A SCORE TELLS YOU HOW IT LOOKS. “WOULD I BUY IT?” HELPS EXPLAIN WHAT TO DO NEXT.

For an eligible AI Buy Assessment, the recommendation interprets the available evidence and highlights the reasons and questions behind it. We explain the assessment, rather than just handing you a number.

The language you’ll see

YESReview the evidence and the price
CHECK BEFORE BUYINGInvestigate first
NO — WALK AWAYSignificant concerns

A recommendation is decision support, not a guarantee about the vehicle or the deal.

Two inputs. One honest assessment.

WHY DO WE NEED THE CURRENT MILEAGE AND ASKING PRICE?

The same vehicle can be a very different buying proposition at a different mileage or a different price.

01 / Buyer-supplied

CURRENT MILEAGE

Puts the vehicle’s valuation and market comparisons in the context of its mileage today.

02 / Buyer-supplied

ASKING PRICE

Allows the particular deal to be considered alongside available valuation and market evidence.

Both must genuinely be supplied by you. We don’t manufacture a score or “Would I Buy It?” recommendation from MOT readings, provider or valuation mileage, historical records, purchase history or an old score.

Clear about the limits

WE DON’T PRETEND AI KNOWS EVERYTHING.

The AI Buy Score™ is decision support, not proof of a vehicle’s physical condition. It cannot replace an inspection or in-person identity checks.

Not visible from a report

Structural repairs, paint depth, hidden damage, mechanical condition, tyres, brakes and the physical VIN/V5C need appropriate in-person checks.

What we will tell you

When evidence is limited, we say so. Public-web findings stay separate from official/provider records. Where specialist inspection is appropriate, the assessment should say so.

Make the next move informed

DON’T JUST CHECK THE CAR.
UNDERSTAND THE DEAL.

Official/provider history, Online Trace™ public-web evidence and Live Market Trace™ context each add a different part of the picture. Where eligible, the AI Buy Assessment brings the available evidence together.
